FAQs
Are you currently accepting new clients?
Yes. If what you’ve read here resonates with you, I invite you to contact me. I am here to help and I sincerely look forward to hearing from you.
Who do you work with and what are the reasons they seek therapy?
I work with adults and teenagers from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, beliefs, experiences, and orientations.
Some clients seek support for challenges such as major depressive disorder, panic disorder, borderline personality disorder, trauma, and schizoaffective disorder.
Others seek help to improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. They want to feel better overall, lower stress, have better relationships, and develop a sense of purpose, confidence, and self-understanding.
For more reasons, see Services.
How will we explore working together?
We’ll begin with a brief 10–15 minute phone conversation to assess whether your needs align with my expertise and therapeutic approach, helping you decide if you would like to schedule an appointment. During this conversation, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and you can ask any questions you have about my approach.
Once we decide to proceed, we’ll schedule our first session and I’ll provide you with a link to the Client Portal, a secure, HIPAA-compliant system for managing client records, so you may complete the paperwork through this portal.
How often would I see you and for how long?
Usually, we’ll meet once a week for a 50-minute session to establish routine and momentum. As therapy progresses, I’ll check in and we may adjust session frequency based on your needs.
Therapy duration varies depending on the issues you are facing and how much they affect your daily life. Some resolve issues in 7-8 sessions, while others may need months or years for more complex issues.
Will I receive a diagnosis?
It depends. In my practice, I see behaviors and emotions in their unique context rather than as “abnormal” or “diseased.” This approach honors your strength, helps you feel in control, and recognizes that your reactions, even painful ones, are ways you cope with challenges.
I am qualified to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Some clients may feel labeled or judged by a diagnosis. Others may find a diagnosis helpful by giving a name to their symptoms and accessing services such as insurance. Insurance reimbursement usually requires a formal DSM diagnosis. In some cases, using a diagnostic framework can assist in developing an effective treatment plan. We can discuss whether a clinical diagnosis based on my assessment will be useful.
What are therapy sessions like with you?
I offer a calming presence with no fixed agenda, letting you share what feels most present. My approach is grounded in curiosity, support, and gentle observations as you explore your thoughts and feelings.
Some sessions may be filled with deep belly laughs, while others may involve sitting with discomfort or vulnerability. Other sessions may fall somewhere in between. There may be moments of significant breakthroughs, as well as times when progress feels stuck. All of these experiences are valid and welcome here.
For details on the theories and techniques that guide my work, see Approach.
Are your sessions in person or online?
Currently, all my sessions are held online using secure Telehealth. This allows for flexible scheduling and ensures your privacy and comfort in a safe, confidential environment.
What is your fee?
My fee for a 50-minute session is $200.
If you are not planning to be reimbursed by insurance, a Good Faith Estimate will be provided before the start of therapy.
How do you accept payment?
It is the client’s responsibility to provide payment at the time of service. I accept cash, checks, and online payments by credit or debit card via the secure Client Portal.
Do you take insurance?
While I don’t take insurance directly, I can provide you with a “superbill” (a monthly billing statement) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
I recommend contacting your insurance provider about out-of-network benefits, which may cover part of the session fees. Reimbursement usually requires a formal DSM diagnosis which will be documented in your medical record. Reimbursement decisions and amounts are at the insurer’s discretion.
Are there things I should know about my rights and your policies?
Yes. I suggest you start with my Policies and Disclaimers for an overview of your rights, my policies, limitations to my services, and usage of this website. For more in depth reading, see HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, Good Faith Estimate, and this website’s Privacy Policy.
