About the Monotype Prints Featured in the Headers
In 2005, I became curious about the monotype printmaking process (an artistic process creating one-of-a-kind prints), so I took a class with Adele Seltzer. Following that, I sublet her studio for a few years and used her press on weekends. The monotypes you see on this site are the result of my weekend explorations.
What I appreciate about the printmaking process is how it balances intention with the unexpected. Traditional tools like paintbrushes often felt limiting to me, so I began experimenting with less conventional instruments such as plastic forks, string, and plumbing washers. These materials introduced unique, sometimes unexpected, textures and patterns, enriching the creative experience.
I also appreciate how the creative process of monotypes parallels aspects of the therapeutic journey, particularly in self-discovery, exploration, and transforming challenges. One key similarity is unpredictability: serendipitous discoveries in monotype printmaking reflect the spontaneous shifts and new insights that often arise during therapy. Just as an unexpected mark or impression can redefine the artwork, unexpected thoughts or emotions can open new pathways for healing and growth in therapy.
About the Illustrations Featured in the Blog
Olga Kondratova is an illustrator based in Spain. I purchased her vector files through iStock and I am using them in accordance with the licensing agreement.
What I appreciated about Olga’s illustration style is its blend of beautiful visuals, expressive colors, and clean simplicity with a touch of delightful quirkiness. She has a large and diverse collection of illustrations, which allows me to customize them by adding and subtracting elements to fit my blog topic. I also added texture to the backgrounds of each illustration using my monotype prints to create a visual connection between the site’s imagery.
